Audit: Sanitation supervisor getting filthy rich
An audit by the Nassau County comptroller's office shows the Oceanside garbage chief is really cleaning up taxpayer's money.
Audits show Charles Scarlata, District 7's general sanitation supervisor, is pulling in a base salary of $146,000 per year. 'Salary adjustments' such as comp time and bonuses push his pay to more than $240,000.
Scarlata also has a $125,000 yearly pension, up to 800 days in termination pay and an allotment of $25,000 a year for 15 years.
The comptroller's office says Scarlata did not comply with auditors. It describes him as "verbally hostile and abusive."
