Home burglary probed as possible bias crime

Authorities in Suffolk are investigating whether the burglary of a Farmingville home Monday was a bias crime.

Neighbors say the family who lives in the home is Muslim and witnesses told News 12 Long Island that after the family went out for a walk Monday morning someone broke into the home and trashed it.

According to police, one of the residents said she may have been targeted because of her religion.

The home is in a gated complex, but neighbors say the gates have been broken for years. Many also say they?ll take more precautions when leaving their homes even if only for a few minutes.
