Nor'easter high tides flood LI neighborhoods

A powerful nor'easter flooded many low-lying areas of Long Island Friday, but the winds may have been the worst of it.

Many homes on the South Shore were surrounded by flood waters, but residents say they?re glad the Island didn't get the brunt of the storm. In Lindenhurst, streets have been flooded since Thursday night. In addition, Dune Road in Westhampton was closed for a time Friday due to flooding. The high winds knocked out power to the Long Beach Medical Center, forcing the hospital to go on backup generator. About 400 LIPA customers briefly lost power as well.

News 12 Long Island forecasters say the strong winds and rain will stick around into Saturday and minor coastal flooding is likely.

LIPA CEO Kevin Law says extra crews are monitoring conditions throughout the weekend.
