Brookhaven Town Councilman Romaine dies

Newly re-elected Brookhaven Town Councilman Keith Romaine died Saturday morning after suffering from pneumonia for several days.

Romaine, 36, passed away at Winthrop-University Hospital from complications caused by a virus that attacked his heart, family spokesman Dan Panico says.

Panico, Romaine's campaign manager and friend, remembered the councilman as a person of impeccable character who worked hard for his constituents.

Friends say Romaine, who was considered a rising star in Republican circles, was a passionate public servant who was inspired by his father, Suffolk Legislator Ed Romaine.

Romaine is survived by his father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
