Arrest made in Roslyn Heights cashier stabbing
Police made an arrest Saturday in the fatal stabbing of a cashier at a Roslyn Heights gas station.
According to authorities, anger over the deportation of his girlfriend drove Wilmer Linares, 23, to kill 26-year-old Jony Acosta at the Gulf gas station Halloween night.
Police say Acosta had a child with Linares' girlfriend before she began dating Linares. But then, investigators say, Linares' girlfriend was arrested on domestic dispute charges and deported after Acosta called police.
"Mr. Linares was upset and took his anger out on his victim," says Detective Lt. John Azzata, of the Nassau Police Department.
If convicted, Linares faces 25 years to life in prison.
