Drivers faced Southern State nightmare

Long Island drivers faced a frightening ordeal Saturday night when slabs of concrete rained down from a Southern State Parkway overpass in Wantagh.

"I basically had to swerve to get around these huge cinderblocks," says Michael Ayalon, of East Meadow.

Authorities say the concrete came loose when a car struck the guardrail in an unrelated accident on the Wantagh State Parkway. A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation says the agency is looking into whether the wall should have been able to withstand the impact of the vehicle.
