Ronkonkoma family loses home in fire

Authorities say a fast-moving fire destroyed a Ronkonkoma home Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters from three local departments, as well as police officers and arson investigators responded to the Willow Place blaze. Fire officials say the amount of smoke made it difficult for firefighters to tackle the flames.

Two of the nine people who live in the house were home at the time of the fire. Both made it out uninjured, though two police officers who first responded to the emergency suffered smoke inhalation.

Assistant Chief Jon Santoli says cedar shingles beneath a layer of new siding may have fed the flames.
