Cops may have lead in Smithtown hit-&-run

Police say they believe they have identified the vehicle that struck and killed a girl in Smithtown Tuesday evening, right in front of her mother.

According to police, 11-year-old Courtney Sipes was crossing East Main Street when she was hit by an SUV or white pickup truck. Witnesses say Sipes became lodged underneath another car.

Sipes was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The girl, her mother and brother were on their way to the victim?s regular guitar lesson at Cornet Music Shop.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or Smithtown police at 631-854-8418.
