LIers hit the roads, rails & sky for Turkey Day
AAA says more than 38 million Americans are traveling more than 50 miles this Thanksgiving, with many of them setting out Wednesday.
That estimate is more than last year and according to AAA, most travelers will be driving. The good news for drivers is that gas prices on Long Island are down to about $2.86 a gallon.
Only about 6 percent of travelers are expected to fly this weekend. AAA blames the flight decline on airline fees and ticket prices.
For those trying to get home for the holiday, the LIRR is offering extra service starting Wednesday. Off-peak fares will be in effect for the weekend starting Thursday.
