Cops on alert for drunken drivers this weekend

With the anticipated extra road travel, people off from work and college students home from school, police across Long Island are stepping up DWI patrols this weekend.

In Suffolk, there will be added patrols on major roads and selected downtown areas as well as random DWI checkpoints.

?You have to know if you [drive drunk] in Suffolk County, there are going to be major consequences,? Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy says.

Nassau cops say there?ll be an increased presence along Hempstead Turnpike and Sunrise Highway. They?ll be looking for drivers going too slowly, weaving and those without their headlights on.
