Jet aborts NY takeoff due to engine fire signal

(AP) - Officials say a passenger jet aborted itstakeoff at LaGuardia Airport after its crew got an indication of anengine fire. All passengers were reported safe.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says AirTran AirwaysFlight 206 bound for Ohio aborted its takeoff on runway 13 at about9:30 p.m. Wednesday and was towed back to the terminal.

A Port Authority spokeswoman says the passengers on the Boeing717 were reported safe and will be put on later flights.

The FAA spokesman says officials were still trying to determineif there was an actual fire.

He says runway 13 is still closed and is causing delays at theairport.
