Police arrest woman in fatal hit-and-run

Police arrested a 20-year-old woman Wednesday night in the hit-and-run death of a girl in Smithtown.

According to authorities, Maureen Lambert, of Stony Brook, struck 11-year-old Courtney Sipes Tuesday night on East Main Street and fled the scene.

Prosecutors say parts of Lambert's Chevy Avalanche truck left at the scene and security camera footage helped locate her vehicle a day later.

Police say they're also interviewing an unidentified man who was with Lambert during the accident.

Lambert surrendered to police and was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal car accident. She may also face a vehicular homicide charge. Lambert is being held on $250,000 bail.
