Black Friday sales across LI draw hundreds

Stores across Long Island opened extra early this Black Friday to help spread out the crowds and ensure shoppers' safety.

Tanger Outlet in Riverhead as well as the Wal-Mart in Valley Stream opened for bargain hunters at midnight Thursday. It was smooth and orderly throughout the morning at Wal-Mart, which was hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's shopper stampede that resulted in the death of a store worker.

At Roosevelt Field, stores were jammed packed with shoppers looking for the best bargains. Business owners are hoping the stores stay packed throughout the holiday season.
