Shirley woman arraigned in fatal stabbing
A Shirley woman was arraigned in court Saturday on a manslaughter charge in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend.
Investigators say Kathleen McGettigan, 56, got into a verbal argument with her boyfriend, 45-year-old David Harris, which got out of control Friday morning.
According to Suffolk District Attorney Nancy Clifford, Harris dared McGettigan to stab him, which she did, hitting the femoral artery. Investigators say McGettigan was the one to call 911.
"We don't believe that she intended to kill him, and that's why she was charged with manslaughter," Clifford says.
McGettigan is being held on $500,000 bond. If convicted, she faces 25 years in prison.
