Suozzi concedes executive race to Mangano

Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi conceded his re-election bid to Republican Ed Mangano Tuesday.

After the counting of nearly 9,000 absentee ballots was completed Monday, the unofficial results put Mangano ahead by 377 votes. The too-close-to-call race went into a recount after Election Day.

Suozzi says he lost re-election because residents are fed up with property taxes. However, he says he has no regrets about the work of his administration over the past seven years. He touted his government?s accomplishments on the environment as well as school and property taxes.

Suozzi says he is looking forward to meeting with Mangano on Wednesday to set up the mechanisms for a smooth transition.

Mangano says his top priorities will be to attack the structural deficit and lower property taxes. He says he?ll start by eliminating Suozzi?s 2.5 percent home energy tax.
