Mangano plans to eliminate jobs and taxes

The incoming Nassau executive is planning job cuts he says will save millions, while at the same time pitching to eliminate a tax that pulls in major revenue for the county.

Nassau County Executive-elect Ed Mangano wants to get rid of more than 100 appointed positions within the county government and "drastically" reduce his staff. He is also pushing to eliminate the home energy tax, which nets the county $38 million in revenue.

Both moves carry potentially major implications for the county's economy.

Mangano and outgoing Executive Tom Suozzi met Wednesday to discuss the transfer of power.
