Arson detectives probe fires at Merrick school

Investigators are looking at several recent fires at a Merrick high school that may have been set intentionally.

At least six fires have been reported in the girls? bathrooms at Calhoun High School during the past few weeks. However, North Merrick Fire Chief James Allen says his department has only been called three times.

Allen also says when the school did call the fire department, they didn?t do it quickly enough.

?They deemed that we didn't need to know about it, that they were too small,? Allen says.

The school building has been evacuated three times in the past two weeks.
