Fire kills Floral Park man, injures 2

Fire officials are investigating an early morning fire that claimed the life of a Floral Park man and injured two firefighters.

Detectives say firefighters responded to a call at 33 Clover Ave. just after 6 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, flames had trapped 35-year-old John Potter on the second floor of the home. Potter's father and stepmother, Thomas and Donna Potter, escaped the fire uninjured.

The Nassau fire marshal says firefighters brought Potter outside to administer CPR. He was then transported to Winthrop Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The two firefighters were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
