Nassau Dems push for home energy tax repeal

Nassau Democrats are spending the last days of their legislative majority trying to repeal a home energy tax ? something Republicans campaigned on this year.

Democrats passed the 2.5 percent energy tax last summer. Many of the same lawmakers who voted for the tax now say they?re against it.

County Executive-elect Ed Mangano says he?ll reduce his office?s budget and staffing to make up for the lost revenue. Mangano and other Republicans vowed to repeal the tax once in control.

A Hofstra University political analyst, meanwhile, says the Democrats are trying to steal the spotlight back from the Republicans.

Lawmakers could vote on the repeal as early as Dec. 21.
