3 suspects arrested in jewelry store shootout

Police say three suspects have been arrested and another is on the loose in the shooting and attempted robbery of a Valley Stream jeweler.

Police say four people pretending to be customers walked into Papandrew Jewelers on Sunrise Highway Wednesday night. When one of the individuals pulled a gun, owner Andrew Papandrew grabbed his own gun and the shooting began.

According to police, Papandrew was hit in the chest but managed to hold one of the suspects until police arrived. Two other suspects were arrested a short time later. The gunman escaped and is still at large.
