Body found in burning car near Freeport temple

A body was discovered inside a burning car parked behind a Freeport synagogue Friday night, police say.

According to authorities, at around 7 p.m. firefighters responded to a car on fire in the parking lot of B'Nai Israel Temple on North Bayview Road. When the flames were put out, firefighters pulled out the charred body, which was identified as 28-year-old Rahmeil Sutton, of Rochester.

Some parents who came Saturday morning to drop off their children at the temple for a Hanukkah celebration had second thoughts after learning of the incident.

Police say they don't believe the temple was targeted. Anyone with information about the victim is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
