Shinnecocks open to all options for casino site

The Shinnecock Indians are beginning negotiations on a site for their planned casino after gaining preliminary federal recognition as a tribe Tuesday.

Shinnecock Trustee Fred Bess wouldn?t say exactly where the tribe wants to build the casino, but says it prefers a location closer to New York City. Bess says all options are on the table.

Suffolk County Leg. Wayne Horsley (D-Babylon) says he?ll push to build the casino in the county.

The tribe previously broke ground on a parcel of land on the East End until a court order put a stop to it.
