Charities appeal to LI for toy donations

A Long Island organization is helping families who don't have money to put gifts under a Christmas tree this year. The Lighthouse Mission has been collecting toys for those in need. The toys were handed out all day Tuesday at the New Life Community Church in Sayville.

Hundreds of parents waited patiently for a chance to pick out toys, with many even showing up the night before. Organizers say this year turned out to be a success despite early estimates they might run out of toys.

The Toys for Tots program says it?s also in need of donations. They're accepting new, unwrapped toys until Wednesday.
