Homeless man's death highlights bigger issue

Advocates say the death of a 56-year-old homeless man in New Cassel Monday is tragic, but not atypical for the bitter cold winter months.

Timothy Bryant was found frozen to death in a field next to an abandoned school. His brother Larry says he tried to get Timothy to come home with him Sunday night, but he refused.

Police and social workers step up their search for homeless Long Islanders when the weather gets cold, but say many of them turn down help.

A day after Bryant's death, the school near where he was found was still open with evidence some had tried to seek shelter there.
