Brentwood teen returns home for holidays

A Brentwood teen who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in November left the hospital Thursday, just in time to celebrate the holidays with his family.

Michael Hayes, 13, was hit by a minivan near Carlton Avenue in Central Islip. He suffered brain swelling, bruised ribs, a broken ankle and needed facial reconstructive surgery.

Police are still searching for the driver, who never stopped and never turned themselves in.

To see an interview with Hayes' parents, go to Channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
