Riverhead telephone poles considered hazardous

Residents and lawmakers in Riverhead are sounding the alarm about the danger telephone poles along Route 58 pose to the disabled.

The telephone poles sit right in the middle of the sidewalk.

Kathy Petroski, whose son is confined to a wheelchair, says the poles are very difficult for her and her son to get around.

The poles were moved out of the street and onto the sidewalk as part of a road-widening project. Town Council Member James Wooten says he wants the project redesigned.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy says he?s willing to make some changes to improve safety on that stretch of Route 58.
