Fire leaves 12 Nassau residents homeless

A dozen Nassau residents are starting the new year without a home after a fire tore through their condo complex.

Firefighters got the call about the flames at Villas in Nassau just after 5 p.m. They say when they arrived, they found that the second-floor unit where the fire began was unoccupied.

According to fire officials, the proximity of the units and shared attic allowed the flames to spread quickly.

Firefighters put the fire out in about an hour, but not before 10 adults and two infants lost their homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
