Body of missing canoeist found in LI Sound

(AP) The Coast Guard says the body of a missing canoeist has been recovered from Long Island Sound.

The 40-year-old man, whose name has not been released, fell into water with three other men after their canoe capsized Monday afternoon near Calf Pasture Point.

Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Resnick says the men went fishing in a 12-foot canoe, which quickly began taking on water. He says the victim wasn't wearing a life vest didn't know how to swim and fell into chilly water with a temperature in the upper 50s.

Police and fire fighters from neighboring towns joined Norwalk police, state police, environmental protection officers and the Coast Guard in the search, which lasted for more than eight hours.

Authorities say a state police dive team found the body.
