Long Islanders rally in Brentwood for 'Raise Up New York' legislation to increase minimum wage
Long Islanders rallied in Brentwood Friday, calling on the state to pass the "Raise Up New York" legislation to increase minimum wage.
Minimum wage is currently determined by the state. The "Raise Up New York" bill would allow cities and counties to raise the minimum wage.
After the rally, a petition in favor of the bill was signed to be sent to Albany. Brentwood resident Eddie Cartagena, who signed the petition, says he is in favor of raising minimum wage since he knows too many people who have left Long Island because the cost of living is so high.
Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Brentwood) co-sponsored the bill.
