Residents bemoan dangerous Smithtown street

Smithtown residents are calling on local officials to address a dangerous stretch of road where a couple was struck and injured Saturday night.

The accident happened on East Main Street at about 8 p.m. right outside the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts, police say. The couple suffered non-life threatening injuries, authorities say.

The man and woman were hit on the same block 11-year-old Courtney Sipes was struck and killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver in November.
