Suffolk digs out from East End snowstorm

Monday morning's commute was a headache for many residents in Suffolk County.

A snowstorm brought nearly 10 inches of snow to parts of eastern Suffolk over the weekend. The National Weather Service reports 5.5 inches fell in Medford, 7.5 in Westhampton and 9.5 in the Ridge-Upton area.

A snow emergency was declared in Southampton and town hall didn?t open until noon for all employees, except public safety and essential personnel.

Many roads are still slick and dangerous, including parts of the Long Island Expressway. Icy roads caused cars near exit 62 in Holtsville to skid out and slide into a snow bank.
