Cops: Child's body found at Yaphank facility

Suffolk County police say the remains of an infant were found at a Yaphank waste transfer station Monday.

Investigators arrived at Winters Yaphank Transfer Station on Old Dock Road around 10 a.m. after an employee found the body inside a compacted bundle of trash.

Police say they still don?t know the sex of the baby or whether it was born alive. A search produced few clues.

The transfer station handles household waste from all over Suffolk.

Police are looking for any information that could lead them to the identity of the child or mother.
