LI native, child killed by elephant in Africa
A Miller Place native and her child were killed in Africa Monday when they were trampled by a charging elephant, leaving a community in mourning thousands of miles away.
Sharon Laurie Brown, 39, had been living outside the United States for years, but still had family in Miller Place. She and her 1-year-old daughter were on a hike in Kenya when they were killed.
Brown?s brother Glenn tells News 12 Long Island, "they came across an elephant and her calf and the elephant charged. When she charged they scattered and my sister stepped on a rock and was thrown."
The family was vacationing when it happened.
