Police rescue Westbury woman from house fire

A Westbury man is thanking two police officers for rescuing his wife Monday night after a fire erupted in their Rugy Road home.

Homeowner Bryan Berman says thick smoke prevented him from getting his wife Leslie out of the second floor of the house.

Officers Mark Iovino and Brian McQuade arrived ahead of firefighters. Bryan Berman says they rushed into the burning home without any masks or equipment on. According to police, Leslie Berman had collapsed inside the home.

Iovino and McQuade managed to drag the woman out of the home to safety.

Investigators say the fire was sparked by the careless disposal of a cigarette.
