New plan gives sex offenders housing vouchers

Suffolk County quashed its much-criticized sex offender housing plan for the Town of Babylon Tuesday, but residents say the alternative plan may create an even bigger problem.

The county planned on setting up a shelter for homeless sex offenders in industrial areas in East Farmingdale and other spots in the Town of Babylon.

Instead, the county will use a voucher system and give homeless sex offenders $90 a day to find housing. The sex offenders will be responsible for keeping their addresses current.

Critics of the new plans say it doesn?t put enough restrictions on where the sex offenders live or provide enough supervision.
