Uniondale FD collects supplies, cash for Haiti

Members of the Uniondale Fire Department organized a donation drive Saturday to collect money and supplies for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The devastation hits close to home for First Assistant Chief Jean Laurent, who has relatives in the island nation.

"We haven't heard anything," he says. "The only news my father got is that he lost a cousin."

St. Agnus Youth Group of Rockville Centre dropped off more than a dozen bags filled with clothes, while other people donated non-perishable foods, water, blankets, medical supplies and cash.

The Uniondale Fire Department will also be accepting donations Sunday.
