Blakeman to run for U.S. Senate

Bruce Blakeman, the former presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Sunday.

Blakeman, who was flanked by Long Island GOP heavyweights Rep. Peter King and former U.S. Sen. Alphonse D'Amato, said if successful in unseating Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand he would fight for everyday New Yorkers.

"You are worried about your future, of your children and grandchildren - I will work hard to protect that future," Blakeman said.
