Mineola school to close after 8 decades

Corpus Christi Elementary School in Mineola is closing after eight decades.

Parents say school officials notified them a few days ago that the Searing Avenue school would be closing its doors for good when the school year ends in June.

According to the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the school is being closed because of the tough economic times on Long Island and because of declining enrollment. Ten years ago Corpus Christi had more than 400 students. Today, only 183 students are enrolled.
