Student brings loaded gun to Brentwood school

(AP) - Brentwood, Long Island school officialssay an 8-year-old boy brought a loaded pistol to school that wasquickly discovered by his teacher.

The boy had the gun in his desk and the teacher overheard himtalking about it. District spokesman Rick Belyea says the teachertook the gun from the desk and hand-delivered it to the assistantprincipal's office Wednesday. The boy was taken to a Suffolk Countyprecinct and to Family Court and has since been released to hisfamily.

Suffolk county officials are investigating. It's not clear whythe third-grader brought the gun to school, though it's believed itcame from his home. It's not clear what his punishment would be.

There were no injuries and no threat to students at BrentwoodNorth Elementary School. More than 900 students attend.
