LI medics go to Haiti on mercy mission

A seven-member team of orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants and nurses from Long Island set out on their journey to Haiti Saturday, where they will work to help injured earthquake survivors.

Dr. Gregory Perrier, an orthopedic surgeon from Dix Hills, helped coordinate the mission because he says he couldn't sit back and watch the devastation.

"We are prepared to provide on-site treatment," he says.

The group will spend 10 days in Haiti before flying back home, but they hope this will be the first of many missions to help those who are in desperate need of medical care.

The trip was made possible through donations by various organizations and churches.
