Long Island volunteers return from Haiti

Members of a local volunteer group just returned from Haiti where they helped plan long-term relief and say the devastation is much worse than they anticipated.

Al Brandel, from Melville, led a group from the Lions Club International to the island nation last week. He and his volunteers brought supplies and hope to a Haitian chapter of the club.

Brandel says the most moving moment came when he met with the leader of a local chapter.

?He said ?We thought we were all alone until you came and told us that you are going to be with us today, tomorrow and years to come,?? Brandel recalls.

The group will head down to Haiti again next month.
