7-year-old LI cancer survivor pays it forward

A 7-year-old who fought her way back from leukemia is paying it forward by urging others on Long Island to join the bone marrow registry.

Jackie Poeggel was diagnosed when she was 3 years old and underwent chemotherapy before having a relapse. She is half Pakistani so finding a bone marrow match was going to be extremely difficult. Poeggel was lucky enough to find a cord blood match at a donor drive in 2008.

Poeggel and her mother Cyndi have already organized nine bone marrow donor drives. Next month they?re holding a massive one in Brentwood because it has a high minority population underrepresented on the registry.
