Long Islanders bundle up against arctic blast
A deep freeze settled over Long Island Saturday, making working outside a bone-chilling experience.
Employees at a Plainview car wash struggled to keep water from freezing as they washed and detailed cars.
"We got to keep moving...and dry the car fast," says manager Emilio Villatyro.
Chief Medical Officer Steven Walsterstein, of Nassau University Medical Center, says when the mercury drops, people should wear layers, scarves and mittens, and drink plenty of water.
Suffolk residents who have no working heat can call the HEAP hotline at 631-853-8825. In Nassau, people can call Project Warm Bed at 1-866-WARM BED.
