Fire destroys Brentwood home; no injuries

A fast-moving fire destroyed a Brentwood home Sunday morning after firefighters had trouble getting water from nearby hydrants because of the bitter cold.

"We had a problem with two of the hydrants," says Chief Eric Raudies, of the Brentwood Fire Department. "Suffolk water was notified and responding - that's under investigation at this time. [The frozen hydrants] did hamper us."

The homeowner's sister, Ester Celys, says the fire at the Pelham Drive home started in the children's room.

"She woke up - she smelled something," says Celys. "She saw the flames ? everybody got out of the house."
