KinderTowne day care to close its doors

Dozens of parents are scrambling to find child care after a day care center in Amityville announced it will close its doors.

The KinderTowne Child Care Center has been a staple in the community for more than 10 years, but parents say the facility will close April 26 due to lack of funding. The center is in part run by Sisters of St. Dominic, but the director says they can no longer afford to put money into the day care.

Experts say the faltering economy has contributed to the closure of 14 licensed private day cares in the last eight months.

Parents say workers at KinderTowne are helping them find quality alternatives in the neighborhood.
