Driver fined for riding in HOV with mannequin

Suffolk police say an officer patrolling the LIE spotted a passenger wearing sunglasses on an overcast day and knew something was off.

When Deputy Sheriff Robert Howard pulled over the driver, he noticed the bespectacled passenger was a well-dressed mannequin being used to ride in the High Occupancy Vehicle lane of the expressway.

Coincidentally, Howard is the same sheriff's deputy who pulled over another driver for riding with a mannequin in the HOV lane in 2008.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old Mount Sinai woman, was fined $135 and got two points on her license for the incident. Police also confiscated the dummy.
