LI towns break out snow plows, salt trucks

Road crews and Long Island?s utilities spent Friday preparing for whatever this weekend?s snowstorm has in store.

The storm is expected to drop half a foot of snow on the Island before tapering off Saturday afternoon. A winter weather advisory for Nassau and Suffolk has been issued through Saturday 6 p.m.

Salt trucks and plows in Hempstead and Long Beach are ready to go. Officials say they don?t want to be caught off guard.

Experts say it is better to stay off the road all together but advise drivers who do set out to take it slow.
