Rescued pups make cross-country trip to LI

Nearly 50 dogs and puppies from shelters in California have made their way across the country and are at North Shore Animal League waiting to be adopted.

North Shore Animal League teamed up with animal advocate groups as part of a coast-to-coast dog transport operation. There?s an overpopulation of small breed dogs in California shelters, but those breeds are in high demand on the East Coast, Animal League workers say.

Most of the dogs are housebroken and can walk on a leash.
