Child porn charges filed against school monitor

Child pornography charges were filed Friday against a Melville after-school program employee.

Police say they confiscated more than 100 graphic sexual images and 30 videos of children and infants from the home computer of Michael Hopkins Wednesday.

Hopkins, a Mineola resident, worked as a monitor of kindergarten through fifth grade classes in the Half Hollow Hills School District. He has been terminated from that position.

There is no evidence Hopkins has had inappropriate contact with children, police say. He was released on $300,000 bond and is under house arrest.
