Big snowstorm goes bust on Long Island
A winter storm that slammed the nation's capital and the entire Mid-Atlantic region fizzled on Long Island.
Parts of southern Long Island, including Long Beach, did see some snow Saturday, with totals ranging from 1 to 3 inches in southwestern Nassau County. In Suffolk, however, plows had the day off.
Some Long Islanders were disappointed the snowstorm turned out to be a dud, while others praised Mother Nature for helping them avoid shoveling.
Since there were no major snow accumulations, the LIRR did not suspend service.
